Damião Barbosa de Araújo

He started out as a violinist and a composer in the Teatro de Guadalupe in Salvador. Later he transferred to Rio de Janeiro where he became the violinist in the Royal Chapel in 1819. Although he returned to Salvador in 1828 his works continued to be played in Rio. Many of his manuscripts from his vast musical production are still preserved in the Municipal Archive of Salvador.
