Jaime moved to Rio de Janeiro in the 1910's and he used to visit the neighborhoods of Lapa and Glória, where he met friends in some cafes that were a refuge of intellectuals and journalists. He became known for his peculiar manner of playing the guitar. His style was highly praised by Sinhô and Pixinguinha. He belongs to the 2nd generation of nationalist composers.
